THE BEGINNINGS

Isabel De Pedro is a Spanish label based in Barcelona, founded by Rafael Tous in 1968 under the name MR. CAT.

Mr. Tous, son of a textile businessman, knew well the business and revolutionized Barcelona's fashion with a casual military-inspired collection. In 1970, Isabel De Pedro became the head designer of the company and launched three lines: Mr. Cat (menswear), Miss Cat (womenswear) and Mini Cat (children).

The company goes from 5 to 40 employees in 1970 and the production increases to 100.000 pieces a year: a great achievement for that period of time in Spain. With an increasing turnover, the brand became a benchmark for its style and its creative advertising campaigns.

The company starts to expand internationally in 1996 in Belgium, Germany and Japan. In this expansion, numbers grow from 13% to 90%.

In 1998, the Mr. Cat brand officially changed to ISABEL DE PEDRO. The creative director decided to focus only on womenswear, eliminating the men’s and children's apparel lines; and 93% of the production was outsourced overseas abroad to over 40 countries and is one of the firms Made in Spain that is most exporting. Moreover, Isabel de PEdro is the only living Spanish firm of those founded in the late 60s.

The company has obtained the credibility that is recognized with a well-done work, both for the quality and originality of its designs as well as for the reliability and efficiency of its sales service.

METRONOM
GALLERY

Rafael Tous, considered one of the most important art collectors in Europe, founded the acclaimed art venue, METRÒNOM, with Isabel in 1981. METRÒNOM was a private arts center based in El Born, the former market area of Barcelona.

“The support of the boldest of the new artistic behaviour of the 70s”

It won the ACCA Award for Best Art Programming. The spectacular gallery, winner of the FAD award for renovation, was conceived to support the boldest of the new artistic behavior of the 70s, artists whose work was too experimental for the commercial galleries.

THEMATIC

COLLECTIONS

Due to the focus on womenswear when became Isabel de Pedro, the creative team decided to establish a strategy for their design process: mono-thematic collections with special emphasis on prints and stretch fabrics with black as the signature color. Some remarkable themes from past collections have been: Art Movements (Surrealism, the Golden Age), Contemporary Dance, Cities (Barcelona, Río De Janerio, París), Regions ( the Basque Country), and Countries (Perú, Russia, China, Italy, Cuba, Scandinavian Countries). The brand delivers two collections every year — Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter.

The brand designs two annual collections (Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter). They are thematic and are the result of the investigation and development trips made by the designer around different interest points of the world.

Sho compiles aesthetics, textures, photographs and all kind of references in order to create a collection which is inspired in a place, a motif, a world or a concept.

Each collection contains 275-325 pieces designed and produced entirely in Spain, both in its factory and in external textile workshops.

  • Design

The study of each garment includes an observation of all the signs and carefully repeating the patterns in different fabrics in order to choose the best for a certain design.

DESIGNER

Isabel de Pedro (Bilbao 1952) has a professional career of 40 years dressing women around the world. Her practical sense and know how transform the firm’s designs in fashionable garments. They are addressed to a sophisticated and feminine woman that likes to show her figure. Isabel de Pedro remains faithful to stretch knit fabrics and black and, in the last years, has gone for monothematic collections with a strong presence of graphic design applied to fabrics and printed garments. Isabel de Pedro is an art collector: an interest that, without a doubt, has a reflection in many of the pieces she designs. Her key to success is her love story with design and the different artistic disciplines that she uses as an inspiration. Her hallmark is to offer a unique and personal style to women around the world.

Isabel De Pedro designs for captivating women with intelligence and unique, undeniable charm. Black is the essence of what she imagines in style — elegant, modern, sophisticated, comfortable and versatile. She believes in white, the opposite of black, for the same reason. She also incorporates red as a sign of sensuality, she usually wears red lipstick and red nail polish. The demographic for Isabel de Pedro is women from their thirties to late sixties, but she also inspires younger generations and millennials. She doesn’t fight the passage of time or see women as less beautiful as their physical appearance changes. Instead, she embraces the inevitability of time by being active, healthy and by having a strong sense of humor. She believes that true beauty lies in elegance.

Isabel De Pedro blends the timeless aura of sophistication and elegance of Hollywood’s actresses from the 40’s with the contemporary modern, strong and intelligent woman.

“She embraces the inevitability of time by being active, healthy and by having a strong sense of humor”
